Welcome to East Leake Amateur Players (ELAPS).

As a new member there is much to learn about ELAPs, but we're hoping that this pack of information will give you a great insight to our friendly group and help you and your family understand what is involved with being a member of ELAPs.
ELAPs has been in existence since January 1999, where it started with only 7 people, its membership has now risen to over 30 each year.
The age range is huge, we have people as young as 8 and as old as 80.
It is a group where all members of the family can get involved with the activities and share good quality time with each other.
ELAPs was created to provide the people of East Leake with their own theatre.
There are two productions each year; a comedy in May and a Pantomime in early December.
The rehearsals for the May play usually start in January.
This play is aimed more towards our adult members and is usually based around a comedy.
Our Pantomime auditions start in August and this involves all ages.
It is a large production with the opportunity for singing, dancing and acting as well as huge involvement in the overall production and staging.
Our members are not all actors.
Many individuals who belong to ELAPs have never acted on the stage. There are so many tasks that need to happen backstage for any production to work.
A list of all these roles and tasks are included inside this pack.
As well as our productions we also hold workshops.
The workshops can be at different times in the year and have covered subjects such as, singing, choreography, miming, using emotion, perfecting accents and prop making.
The aim of Elaps is to ensure that everyone has the ability to learn, grow and develop in all aspects of the theatre regardless of their age at the same time as having fun and meeting new people.
With regard to additional activities, this may vary each year but you can depend on a great social life with Elaps.
There is a quiz team "Collaps" who volunteer their brains every Monday night at the Nags Head.
This is a way of raising funds for the group.
There is a yearly social night ELAPs4ELAPs where members and their families can come along and be entertained by ELAPs!
There are always after show parties for the cast, crew and families of each production.
There will be Youth activities during the year, which may vary from a small production to entering competitions against other youth groups throughout the county.
The outcome of these activities may depend on additional volunteers to assist in running the group, so if any family member is interested, be sure to let us all know.
All of the Elaps activities, workshops, productions, play dates and much more is shared with all our members via the ELAPs Newsletter "Stage Whisper".
This is distributed via email and provides you and your family with all the vital information and news from ELAPs.
ELAPs is completely self-funded, membership is required for your year's activities.
This covers us for our insurance and rental of the village hall.
Each play raises money which is used to invest back into the group.
So far, we have purchased our own lights, stage extension, curtains, shed and sound equipment.
ELAPs members also help towards the raffle and with providing part of their costumes for the big productions.
ELAPs meet every Thursday night from 7:30pm to 9:30pm at the Village Hall.
During the busy periods (Mar-May and Oct-Nov) extra rehearsals are made on alternate Sundays from 1pm to 5pm.
There will always be a rehearsal schedule published at the beginning of every production by the director/producer.
I hope this pack of information makes joining ELAPs and understanding every part of the group a little easier.
I look forward to seeing you over the coming productions, if you have any questions at all don't hesitate to ask myself of one of the other members of the committee.
