News The September Nanada news letter is attached so you can read in full if you donwload it but the highlights are:NANDA Newsletter

NANDA Newsletter
September 2012
Editor Howard Whitehurst

A new season is upon us and whilst some groups have already announced their full programmes, others have yet to let me know about their first productions. Hopefully the November Newsletter will have more information about plays being performed across the county. Early details about NANDA’s festivals can also be found here.

News from our Theatres

The theatre consultant appointed to review and advise Gedling Borough Council about the management, programming and promotion of the Bonington Theatre is now well into the project. It is hoped that there will be a part time theatre manager in place at the beginning of the next financial year and that the theatre can progress to becoming a thriving community theatre within the borough.
Consultation has now been commenced with the local community by the project team working with the Duke of Westminster’s Estates to bring Stanford Hall back into use as a rehabilitation centre for troops injured in armed conflicts. It is hoped that the theatre can be brought back into use and NANDA has made initial representations.

Play of the Year Competition 2011-2012 and Annual Awards Dinner

The competition runs from September to May and the Council is keen to see more groups participating next season. If you would like to know a little more about it, and what you need to do to enter, then please contact the competition organiser Joan Wildgust on 0115 9291077. Rules of the competition can be found on our website.
The adjudicator will be Stephen Godward, a character actor, semi professional singer and former Head of Drama at a Derbyshire school. He is very much looking forward to the season ahead.

NANDA One Act Play Festival

Next year's festival will be held on Friday and Saturday 1st and 2nd March 2013 at the Bonington Theatre, Arnold. Bob Wildgust, the organiser, is hopeful that more groups will enter, five or six entries would be ideal. This season's winner would go through to the quarter final, to be held in Leicestershire in May 2013.

NANDA Youth Festival

The 2013 dates have yet to be confirmed but Sonya Oates and Jean Lebeter will again be organising the festival. It is likely that the Chilwell Olympia will again be the venue.

Facebook

Our new Facebook page is up and running. We hope that this will become a major medium for groups to post news, photographs, and notices and posters about forthcoming productions. I am pleased to inform you that FB has now accepted that NANDA is an official acronym so all you need to do to sign up, as a group or individual, is to enter NANDA in the search box and up we will come. We already have a number of groups and individuals who have joined so please make sure that you are not missing out.
In order for groups and their individual members to receive our newsfeed they simply need to click the “Like” button. Please feel free to post photos of your productions from time to time.

Course for Directors

The NANDA Play Direction Course, which is an introductory course designed to assist persons with little or no experience in directing plays, will be run on Fridays 21, 28 September and 5 October 2012 at the Aspley Community Training Centre. It has been heavily subscribed and a number of individuals have enquired about attending a later course. Council has decided that this second course will be run early in 2013 and more details can be obtained from the leader Bob Wildgust. Full details about course content can be found on the NANDA Facebook page and on the NANDA website.

A Day in the Life of a Set Designer - in one hour.
Tim Meacock, the designer on the show The importance of Being Ernest currently playing at Nottingham Playhouse, will talk through how he decides how a production will look and feel. This includes designing the set, how it will work practically when it is used by actors and designing the costumes and props for the show.
